December is National Human Rights month. This month focuses on standing together for equal rights and dignity for each citizen across the world.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was first established in Paris on Dec. 10, 1948.

This is a time to honor the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, an international document stating the fundamental rights and freedoms to which all human beings are entitled. These rights and freedoms include freedom from discrimination, the right to equality, and the right to be considered innocent until proven guilty.

People have been encouraged to use different hashtags to help raise awareness about the issues inclduing #NationalHumanRights and #HumanRights to help raise awareness.

The United Nations theme for Human Rights Awareness day is equality. It also focuses on “reducing inequalities, advancing human rights.”

The Dignity & Respect Campaign says the best way we can celebrate Universal Human Rights Month is by working to find common ground with those around us who may not have the same background as we do. They also stress that everyone is equal regardless of how different their cultures or backgrounds are.

Being open minded is vital when it comes to human rights.Other ways you can celebrate this month are to read the Declaration of Human rights or other content about human rights, spread the word to others, and treat everyone with the same kindness, dignity, and respect.
