Sinclair Hosts Annual Manufacturing Day

Sinclair Community College hosted their annual Manufacturing Day event on Friday, Oct.1. Highlights included presentations of the various manufacturing programs available in the Science, Mathematics, and Engineering division at Sinclair.

By using interactive demonstrations and presentations, this year’s event highlighted Biotechnology, Electronics & Robotics, Engineering University Transfer, Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology & HVAC-R

The interactive demonstrations included: “Touring four different labs, meeting the faculty and staff of each program,” said Seaira Scholes, Administrative Assistant II, in the Science, Mathematics, and Engineering department. “They will also get to see the machines that are used in each program, but they will not be running during the tour.”

The annual event highlights modern manufacturing careers that are available today. Every year on this day, thousands of companies are encouraged to open their doors to students, teachers, parents, and community leaders, in hopes of generating attention to all the careers available in these fields.

The event puts a strong emphasis on engaging digital and virtual events across the country.

“Last year, Sinclair participated in the event virtually, this year is our first year in person, we are excited,” said Scholes.

Masks and social distancing have changed the way events are held, and Sinclair has adapted according to the guidelines.

Sinclair offers several Automotive Technology certificates. 95% of graduating students find employment in their field within a month of completing the program. On average, they earn $48,000 to $98,000 within the first two years of employment.

The Computer Aided Manufacturing program is a hands-on co-op program. You can get practical work experience while earning your degree. The laboratory equipment used is ranked among the best in the region. Daily tours conducted by technicians are available between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Energy Management Technology is more important today than ever before. With increased awareness of excessive energy usage, it is important to design energy efficient buildings and manufacturing machinery, on average one can earn $52,910 a year.

Manufacturers will be looking to fill four million high skill, high tech, high paying jobs over the next decade. Explore the options of each program and watch demonstrations from other colleges and businesses. Wright State University is hosting a weeklong Manufacturing Day event starting Oct. 2.

Scholes said “Although this year’s event is full, there is a similar event on Nov. 5 at Sinclair; Engineering and Technologies Day.”
