Sinclair Community College is hosting its annual career fair virtually on April 7 from noon to 3 p.m. It will be open to students from all departments at Sinclair. Those interested can register for

the event on Sinclair’s website.

Presented by the Student Community and Engagement office, the event will feature 107 Dayton employers from various industries, including medical, engineering, information technology, early childhood education and business. 

Employers who will be present at the fair include Reynolds and Reynolds, Kettering Health Network, Amazon, Five Rivers MetroParks, Fifth Third Bank and PSA Airlines. Of course, Sinclair itself will also be an employer represented at the fair. To see a full list of all the employers who are attending, attendees can visit JobLink.

Students at any point in their education can participate and do not necessarily have to be close to graduation. There will be opportunities for full-time, part-time, seasonal positions, internships and more. 

“Many of these companies will work around school schedules,” said Sinclair community engagement coordinator, Christine Yancey. “Some of them may be even offering apprenticeships and internship opportunities.”

The event will take place on an online platform used for job fairs. Sinclair had other types of career fairs over a virtual setting in 2020, which turned out to be very successful. 

“It’s really an easy platform to use,” said Yancey. “It’s very user friendly. There are tutorials on the registration page.”

Students have to register for the event with an email and password. Yancey recommended using a personal email. As the fair is open for three hours, students can pop in at any time. 

“My advice, though, is the earlier the better,” said Yancey. “The recruiters are ready to hit the ground running from that point.” 

 The platform will allow students to create a profile with a photo and information about themselves. There will be pages with all of the participating employers. Students can click on a company that they are interested in and will be taken to a virtual lobby. The lobby will include information about the employer and open job positions. There will likely be links to the company’s social media pages as well. 

Attendants will begin by speaking with employers through a chat box located in the bottom right corner of their screen. They should come prepared for an interview as sometimes the employers will decide to do an interview over video and may even hire people at the event. If the employers wish to speak with candidates over a video, they will send a request for them to accept.

“There’s no better way to meet a lot of employers all at once than a career fair,” said Yancey. 

There will be an option to upload a resume along with the registrant’s information. This is not required, but is strongly recommended. Anyone in need of assistance with their resume can contact Christine Yancey at christine.yancey@sinclair.edu to set up a time. 

Yancey stated that students who need help can still contact her even after the event is over. Sinclair has also provided a video that gives advice on creating a resume.
