Sinclair Food Pantry To Offer Drive-up Option

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and rise in case numbers in Montgomery County, the Sinclair Food Pantry is closed, but will be offering drive-up services on Jan. 27. Sinclair Food Pantry exists to help those students who face food shortage and have trouble acquiring groceries, something that is more prevalent now during the current pandemic. 

Students who wish to participate in the drive-up event must sign up at the link below and state how many boxes they need in advance in order for staff of the pantry to have what is needed. According to Matt Massie, who is organizing the event, the pantry offers non-perishable items such as cereal, dry goods, canned goods and more.  There will be another drive-up event on Feb. 17 as well.

Typically, the pantry works as a ‘shopping model’, which means that the students can come to the pantry, provide their student ID and then select items from the pantry in different categories that meet their needs and preferences. However, the COVID pandemic has forced a change in procedure. Instead, the pantry now operates as a drive-up pantry, which allows students to still access what they need while complying with COVID restrictions. 

The pantry has worked to better understand the needs of Sinclair students who face hardships, particularly food insecurity. This inspired Dr. Massie and his staff to create the food pantry, and design it with Sinclair students in mind. The pantry has been in operation for roughly a year and a half. Food is sourced from local grocers, community partners as well as from student clubs and organizations coordinating food drives.
