Students who are undecided and unsure of what to do with their degree have the opportunity to pick the degree that is right for them at Deciding Day here at Sinclair.
According to Chrissanne Ruehle, the Assistant Professor of Marketing Instruction and Management, this is the perfect opportunity for undecided students to make a decision that will be right for them.
“The event is really to help students that are undecided with their major,” she said.
According to Ruehle, it is helpful for undecided students to speak with an expert which is what the event will do.
“All of the coordinators are very passionate about their programs. We are a wonderful resource,” she said.
Deciding Day will bring the six different career communities together so that students will have different options to explore.
According to Julie Thompson, the Academic Advisor for Connect 4 Completion, many students don’t know that Sinclair offers a wide variety of degrees and programs to choose from.
Thompson said that the event will put academic career advisors from the six different communities together so that students can get a good view of their options.
According to Thompson, Deciding Day will give students a chance to see their strengths and what will be a good fit for them.
“It’s a way for them to see it all,” she said.
According to Ruehle, it is important that students look beyond the careers that just sound appealing or that family members and friends tell them they should do.
“They’re just hearing careers,” she said, “Each person needs to find their own path. You need to find the career coordinator that can help with that.”
Ruehle said that it is good to explore and it may helps students make a decision about their path. However, she said that it is important to find a good balance.
“You have to have an end in mind,” she said.
According to Ruehle, Deciding Day will also help students who may feel like they are in the wrong degree. Ruehle said that not only will it help students get on the right path to transferring if they would like, it will also help them in financial aid.
According to Ruehle, it’s important for transfer students to think about deciding soon so that they can start thinking about the other courses they will have to take elsewhere.
The career communities were first put together so that students could find a sense of belonging on the Sinclair campus. According to Ruehle, Deciding Day will help students connect with their right career community so that they can have a good place to go on campus.
“The campus can be a little smaller once you delve into your community,” Thompson said.
Thompson advises students who don’t know if they are in the right degree to meet with a career advisor, who are different from academic advisors.
According to Thompson, they have different resources that will help students make the right decisions and the career advisors will also be at the event.
Deciding Day will be held on Monday, October 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be held in the Tartan Marketplace.
