The Screen Actors Guild Awards aired this past Saturday and there was a lot of things to remember along with the elegance of the night. The show kicked off with taking us around the room filled with actors letting select ones speak about their love for acting. The show then continued with spotlighting all the actors for television and movies.

So, let’s get to the importance of the show, the winners. Orange is the New Black was among the big winners of the night taking home two awards for the show itself for best ensemble in a comedy series, but Uzo Aduba took home an award for best female actor in a comedy series. Idris Elba was also a big winner of the night taking home two awards for both his performance in Beasts of no Nation and Luther. There were more big winners; such as,

  • Downton Abbey: outstanding performance ensemble in a drama series.
  • Spotlight: outstanding performance by cast in a motion picture.

    • Leonardo Dicaprio Revenant: outstanding performance by male actor in leading role.
    • Brie Larson – Room: outstanding performance by female actor in leading role.
    • Kevin Spacey – House of Cards: outstanding performance by male actor in drama series.
    • Viola Davis – How to Get Away with Murder: outstanding performance by female actor in drama series.

  • Queen Latifah – Bessie: outstanding performance female actor in TV movie or miniseries.
  • Alicia Vikander – The Danish Girl: outstanding performance by female supporting role in motion picture.
  • Jeffrey Tambor – Transparent: outstanding performance by male actor in comedy series.
  • Mad Max, Fury Road: outstanding performance by stunt ensemble in motion picture.
  • Game of Thrones: outstanding performance stunt ensemble comedy or drama series.

After the majority of awards got handed out, they gave out their lifetime achievement award. Long time actress Carol Burnett was given this award for being on television since the 40’s. She was honored with a minmarama of all she has done. As she spoke about her spontaneous time in Hollywood, that included climbing the Hollywood sign was beautiful. She also hinted at her long time friendship with Lucille Ball back in the day.

Once the show had ended, there was an announcement about the people who voted for the winners. The Screen Actors Guild was sure to point out that there was a huge amount of diversity voting. Viewers were unsure if that was a stab to the Oscars about the recent and recurring diversity issue or if they just didn’t want drama pointed at them. Either way, the show was beautiful and fair.
