Liberal Arts Dean Struthers resigns

Dr. Sally Struthers recently announced her resignation as dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Communications, and Social Sciences at Sinclair Community College after a six-year tenure.

“When I became dean six years ago, it was a struggle between teaching and becoming dean,” said Struthers. “I miss teaching.”

Her recent work on The Roman World art exhibit held last year at the Dayton Art Institute helped clarify her desire to return to teaching. A recent retirement of an art historian from the Art Department presented an opportunity to return to the classroom.

“I still have many good years of teaching left in me, and am eager to return to my students,” Struthers said in her announcement to faculty and staff.

Struthers joined Sinclair in 1987 as a part time art history instructor, becoming a full time instructor in 1990 and chairperson of the Art Department in 1996. In 2002, she became dean of Fine and Performing arts, which became the College of Liberal Arts, Communications, and Social sciences in 2007. She has also taught at the University of Dayton and currently also teaches at Capital University.

“I’ve loved every minute of it,” said Struthers.

Struthers will return to teaching at Sinclair as a professor of art history as early as Winter Quarter 2009, but will remain dean until a new dean is named. A new dean will hopefully be named by January, according to Struthers.

“It is with sadness that I will leave my dean’s position, but it is with great joy that I look forward to personal interaction with eager students on a daily basis, sharing my knowledge of art and archaeology with the next generation of learners, and learning new things from my students and colleagues,” Struthers said in her announcement.
